Bookshop for dummies
Welcome dear students!
Your student life in Belgium will be full of epic parties or maybe cultural activities in many different cities, but your most important task is to study! Our Medica bookshop is there to help you with this more serious but not less interesting business. The Dutch word we use for ‘bookshop’ is ‘cursusdienst’ or ‘CuDi’ in short. If you read these words anywhere, you know we’re talking about our bookshop.
Unit cursusdienst is the part of our praesidium that is responsible for our bookshop. All year long, they’ll do the best they can to provide you with textbooks and slides for you courses. These are written by your professors and we send them to a printing office so that we can sell them at profitable prices.
Also in our assortment are books form ACCO bookshop and other handbooks. We buy these books in big numbers, which is why we can sell them at a discount. Starting from the third year of your bachelors degree, we also sell ACCO-textbooks. We can not give you an additional Medica discount, but all students owning an ACCO card will get the ACCO discount in our bookshop as well. Be sure to bring this card with you when you collect your books.
Many students need (bio)medical material. You can buy these things in the Medical Werff webshop. You can choose between delivery at home for a fee or delivery at the bookshop for free! Only during the first week of the first semester, you can buy your lab coat/doctor coat in our bookshop. You can always fit the coats in advance in our bookshoop, we have all sizes available!
Another book we sell is a codex. This is not at all necessary for your studies, but you can’t properly enjoy a cantus without it! Not sure what ‘codex’ and ‘cantus’ mean? Ask a local student or come see for yourself!
If you want to feel like you’re part of our faculty organisation, our (bio)medical student community, you can buy your Medica merchandise in our bookshop! We have a sweater, a beer glass, a sticker…
If you want to become a Medica member, our bookshop is the place to be. This membership will give you a discount on many Medica activities.
We try to think of our planet every now and then. That’s why we will not be giving out free plastic bags to carry your books. Come prepared and bring your own bag, or order a Medica tote bag for just €1!
Order your books as soon as possible, first ordered, first assigned. Check out the manual on how to order your books. You can find the date on which reservations start on the bookshop website. Opening hours to collect your books will be posted there as well. The bookshop is located in Doc’s Bar (Brusselsestraat 246, Leuven). Wait for your books to be assigned before you come to collect them.
We do not accept cash so you’ll have to pay by card.
If you have any questions, you can check the FAQ or you can send an e-mail to helpdesk-cudi@medica.be!
